Turkey and Syria have recently been making efforts to normalize relations after over a decade of tension stemming from the Syrian civil war. Diplomatic Relations

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed optimism about restoring diplomatic ties with Syria, stating that there are no major obstacles preventing this (AP News, 2024). Similarly, Syrian President Bashar Assad has signaled openness to initiatives aimed at improving relations between Syria and Turkey (AP News, 2024). Notably, the defense ministers and intelligence chiefs of the two countries met in Moscow in December 2022 to begin discussions on reconciliation (The Century Foundation, 2024).
