Overview
The Chinese Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Silk Road Initiative are ambitious development and economic strategies initiated by China. Launched in 2013 by President Xi Jinping, the BRI aims to enhance global trade and stimulate economic growth across Asia and beyond by developing trade routes reminiscent of the ancient Silk Road. These initiatives encompass a vast network of railways, highways, ports, and pipelines, spanning over 60 countries (Rolland, 2019; Jones & Zeng, 2019).
